What is 24 Hour Prayer?

By 2008, "24 Hour" Prayer is not a new idea!  Many college campuses host a 24-Hour Prayer Room, inviting students to come at any hour of the day to pray!  Other campuses have "fanned the flame" of prayer and revival through occasional weeks of "24-7" prayer or specific prayer-related events.  Events, such as The Call and Onething, are large meetings where young men and women can gather from every campus in the area--or travel across the nation--to join in concerted, powerful prayer with a purpose to bring God back to a place of honor in our lives and in our nation.

At Burning Hearts, we bring a specific call to prayer that is personal--with the expectation that people who are committed to the discipline of a daily devotional life, to purity in this sex-crazed, binge drinking culture, and to reaching out to their friends and family with the Good News.

I am inviting any campus who has at least one guy and one girl to lead a Burning Hearts meeting (student-led) for the 2008 school year  for 21 weeks to secure a location that is open to any student, faculty or campus minister on your campus for only one hour once a week and study/follow/embrace/sustain a call to:

Prayerbe committed to a daily 30 minute appointment with the King—having a plan to spend time in the Bible and prayer each day.

Puritynot look at or touch another person’s private parts until they are married—and willing to be kept accountable to this standard.

Purposeto pray for a genuine revival on your campus, and also to pray specifically by name for those who do not know Christ.

The Burning Heart Contract book will be made available to you for a discount, alone with a FREE DVD of the Burning Hearts call to preview with your group.  In addition, a personal phone conversation with Becky will be scheduled to answer any questions.

The few requirements of the BH Club STUDENT LEADERS will be as follows:

(1) To use The Burning Heart Contract: 21 Day Adventure (in 21 weeks)—7 weeks on prayer, 7 weeks on purity, 7 weeks on purpose as your outline.

(2) To personally make a commitment to these 3 tenets for 21 weeks!

(3) Be able to meet weekly at the same time for continuity, or assign a volunteer to replace you when you can’t make it.

(4) Prepare the devotional in advance; consecrate yourself to be prepared to pray with others.

(5) Contact me once a week by email, within 24 hours after your meeting, with a “good” report.

(6) Register on the Burning Hearts website as a club (by zip code) so that any student in your area could attend/meet.  (no cost, just a few minutes of data entry on the BH Club page.)

(7) Secure a location (maybe a prayer room?), choose a time, and date that will remain the same for the 21 weeks.  Sign up through me at: becky@theburningheartcontract.com

I truly respect how busy you are…and I know you have many opportunities pray for revival--as well as be a part of revival on your college campus.  But I also am convinced that there is an incredible struggle to remain committed to prayer and purity as a young Christian man or woman…in fact, I am reminded of the battle every time I walk on a campus (and speak at a meeting or pray for students).

This idea is somewhat different than my visit to 23 campuses in 40 days, connecting 960 hours of consecutive prayer in 2006, but I believe it will have as great an impact as the "40 Days of Prayer" if it creates a true place of accountability for those students, faculty, or campus ministers who desire to be "sold out to prayer, set apart in purity, and sent out with purpose."
